Girls are Great

International Women's Day is this weekend- Sunday 8th March, & this year it’s all about being EQUAL. An equal world is an enabled world. Let’s all be each for equal.

All day, ever day, we have choices to make. We can actively choose to challenge stereo types, fight bias, broaden perceptions & improve our situations. Individually, we can help to create a gender equal world. The equality of women, is essential for economies & communities alike to thrive & grow, making it a healthier, wealthier & more harmonious world. It’s time to make it happen.

Do what you can to truly make a positive difference to all the women everywhere. At F.D we asked ourselves how can we make a difference in the lingerie industry to help women & girls around the world that aren’t as fortunate as ourselves?

Our answer is to donate. In house at Full Disclosure we don’t always manage to sell all of our stock. Instead of it sitting around, waiting for Sale season to come, (where it might not even sell) we have decided to donate all of our old season stock to the charity, Smalls for All, who collect & distribute underwear to help women & children in Africa & the UK.

Smalls for All was started in 2010 by founder Maria Macnamara who worked as a volunteer on a series of orphanage trips. Maria speaks of these trips as the inspiration & main driving force behind setting up the charity to make a difference-

“When I got home, I was always very aware that following my trips, I’d left behind many children who had got used to me and come to rely on me. I was very worried that perhaps I was doing more harm than good by spending two to three weeks with them, then leaving for home. So, I realised I needed to do something more sustainable that would have longer-term benefits.

“Then I remembered about the lack of underwear and the problems this can cause. It’s a health and hygiene problem for many poor African communities, as women often only own one pair of tattered pants or have none at all. It’s also a matter of dignity.

“And that’s how Smalls came to life as a registered charity: to help women and children by providing them with underwear they otherwise wouldn’t have access to.”

Smalls & their supporters help to collection & distribute, both new pants & new or gently worn bras to women & children in Africa and the UK who need it most.

The charity keeps a Pantometer, & since its last update in February the charity has collected 1,233,401 items of underwear & distributed 1,199,001. This week we’ll be adding to the pile & donating 44 bras & 26 knickers to help support the charities work.

If, like most of us girls, you’ve got brand new bras or ones you’ve only worn once on twice, maybe they don’t fit quite right or you just don’t need them then you can donate to Small for All too, find out how here- https://www.smallsforall.org/get-involved/donate/

An equal world is an enabled world. How will you help make a positive difference to women? Celebrate women's achievements. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality.

Remember, it doesn’t have to be big gesture. Leave a positive fingerprint on everyone you meet, if its chatting to someone in your local shop, smiling at someone on the tube, or helping a stranger with their bags. It costs nothing to be nice and it could change someone’s day.

As an extra act of celebration, we’d love to give something back to our F.D audience too, we’re offering 20% off everything sitewide from Thursday 5th - Monday 9th March, simply add the code EQUAL4EQUAL at the checkout. Let’s celebrate WOMEN together.
